Rank 1 is the toughest matchup on each measure. Moveis how many places a defense shifts once its record is adjusted for the offenses it faced and blended with the market — positive means it is softer than its raw number suggests.

The rating is position-specific and so is the colour. It is 0.65 of the opponent’s defense-vs-position rating plus 0.35 of the implied total for the game — the same matchup_score the trade windows use, carried through from the pipeline rather than rebuilt here. Positive means a soft spot.

Two things limit how far ahead this can see. Only 128 of the 512 team-weeks here carry a real betting line, all in weeks 1–4. Every other implied total is a model estimate, and the further out it is the more it is really just a judgement about the two offenses. And in the preseason a defense’s rating is built from last season, which prices a unit that lost five starters the same as one that returned nine.

The three summary columns are much less position-specific than the grid is. A third of the rating is the team’s own implied total, which does not vary by position, and over a full season the defense-vs-position half largely averages out — every team faces a mixed bag. What survives is mostly the environment term, so the season means correlate 0.96 between RB and TE, and Philadelphia comes out softest for all four positions. The spread flattens too: a single week’s cells have a standard deviation of 0.79, the season means only 0.30. Read those columns as how good an offense is expected to be, and the week-by-week cells — which correlate 0.77 to 0.87 across positions — as the schedule.

Week 18 is absent everywhere on purpose: fantasy seasons end at 17, and including it would credit every team with a game no roster can use.
